Verlinde partners DOSSOT and Somiram jointly delivered a tailor-made overhead crane solution for DRUMEL Industrie, making it possible to install and run a new machining center within a very tight space.
To back a new machining center investment at DRUMEL Industrie, Verlinde partners DOSSOT and Somiram provided a customized lifting solution built for a highly constrained installation environment. The project aimed to support DRUMEL Industrie's production of larger and heavier parts while keeping machine handling safe and efficient.
The project posed a major technical challenge because of the extremely tight space available. With the new machining center already ordered, the installation area left only 1 meter of clearance above the machine for a 6.3-tonne crane. A standard crane solution therefore could not meet the requirements, and the project also called for a customized power supply system suited to the industrial environment.
DOSSOT fitted a 6.3-tonne overhead travelling crane with a span of 13,070 mm, equipped with a Verlinde EUROBLOC VT204 double-girder electric wire rope hoist. The double-girder configuration was chosen to spread the load across two rails and maximize hook height.
To achieve extra height, the crane beams were embedded directly into the building walls. The solution also featured a load limiter with two Maximum Working Capacity (MWC) thresholds, a programmed restricted travel zone to prevent the hook colliding with the machine, and a power supply system built with an energy chain to reduce exposure to splinters and dust.
A 6.3-tonne overhead travelling crane was successfully fitted into a space offering just 1 meter of clearance above the machining center.
