SERE Maintenance, which designs and builds lifting equipment, handling systems and overhead cranes, fitted out Manitou Group’s new production unit for rough-terrain aerial platforms in Candé with 15 custom-designed overhead cranes. As a member of the EUROPONT and SAV Verlinde networks, SERE Maintenance tailored the lifting equipment to match the factory’s layout, assembly lines and safety needs

Manitou Group, a world leader in handling, personnel lifting and earthmoving equipment, has opened an 18,000 m² production facility for rough-terrain aerial platforms in Candé. Running since late 2021, the plant was built to boost output and keep pace with robust demand from the European and North American markets.
Featuring two automated production lines, a test centre and logistics facilities, the plant needed SERE Maintenance to supply lifting equipment matched to its layout and to the technical and safety demands of both aerial platform assembly lines. The brief covered transfer of loads between the lines, safe clearance around an office area, and a start-up interlock so the lines could only run once the hoists were in a safe position.
Having served Manitou Group for many years, SERE Maintenance already understood the group's requirements and constraints inside out. Impressed with the calibre of its products and services, Manitou Group brought the partnership to the new site as well.
“We're glad to have delivered on our customer's technical requirements. Having worked with Manitou Group for many years, we knew exactly what their demands and constraints were. We finished the order in just 5 months, and the production unit was ready to run by November 2021.”
Ludovic Mathys, CEO of SERE Maintenance
Having reviewed Manitou Group's needs for two full aerial platform assembly lines, SERE Maintenance engineered and built 15 overhead travelling cranes fitted with Verlinde Eurobloc VM electric wire rope hoists. Capacities range from 1.6 to 4 tonnes, with each crane customised to suit the factory's ergonomics.
One crane spans two bays so loads can pass from one production line to the next. Another was engineered so its hoist hook safely clears an office area. Above the assembly lines, the cranes carry an electrical feedback system in the feeder shaft that stops the lines from starting until the hoists reach a safe position.
Every one of the 15 cranes is radio controlled, and their cable-chain hoist power lines are designed to cut the risk of snagging and protect the lines from damage. The whole order was completed in five months, letting the production unit begin operating in November 2021.
“The industrial equipment Sere Maintenance proposed matches exactly the level of performance we wanted for our new plant. These hoists keep all our teams safe and suit the dimensions of our site perfectly. Partnering with local suppliers also matters greatly to us, as it makes exchanges throughout the project much easier...”
